“Becoming a host family is one of the greatest joys we have experienced together as a family. Our intent was to bless a young man with a place to stay while pursuing soccer dreams, but we were truly the one’s blessed tenfold. These young men have become a part of our family…brothers, mentors and friends to our children. It has been a joy to watch them grow personally and professionally. These young men and their families have become lifelong friends.” The Archie Family
(Archie Family) Conversation with my 10 year old:
Jude - “Mom, I have brothers from all over the world”
Me - “Yes, yes you do…how cool is that?”
Jude - “That makes me 1/2 Irish, 1/2 Honduran, 1/2 English, 1/2 German…”
Me - “That’s a lot of halves…”
Jude (with a huge smile on his face) - “Yes it is.”
Host Family Program
The St. Louis Lions are always looking for local families to house a men or women's player during their summer season. (Approximately May-July). This opportunity provides the players a home away from home while trying to reach their goals at a professional level.
What is expected of host families? Not much really...we ask that the host families offer a bed and some meals, as our players are signed as amateurs in order to maintain their collegiate availability.
The best way to support your Lion is to come to as many games as you can (home and away) during the the season. They love to see you there!
FAQ'S
Do I have to take them to and from practices and games? - No, players are asked to find their own transportation and often pair with another player who has their own transportation.
My family is busy, how will I find time to be there with them? - The Lions are quite busy themselves, and spend most of the day training, participating in community events, traveling for away games, and some have part time jobs as well.
What if I cannot be home to cook them dinner? - These are mostly college age men, and are used to fending for themselves...you may even get lucky and host a player who likes to cook!
